Buyresidentialproxy / Reviews / Shifter Residential Proxy
We purchased and tested Shifter residential proxies ourselves to measure how the service performs in a real 1,000-request benchmark.
Shifter completed 932 out of 1,000 requests successfully and recorded 68 failed requests, resulting in a 93.20% success rate. The average response time was 1.92 seconds.
Based on our hands-on test, Shifter delivered fast average response times, but its success rate was lower than the strongest residential proxy providers we tested. It may be suitable for lighter workloads, while high-volume projects should consider the 6.80% failure rate before scaling.
Shifter Test Results at a Glance
Metric | Our Test Result |
Total Requests | 1,000 |
Successful Requests | 932/ 1,000 |
Failed Requests | 68 / 1,000 |
Success Rate | 93.20% |
Failure Rate | 6.80% |
Average Response Time | 1.92 sec |
We Purchased and Tested Shifter Ourselves
A proxy provider can advertise a large IP pool and high uptime, but those claims do not always show how the network performs when you send real requests through it.
That is why we tested Shifter ourselves.
We purchased residential proxy traffic, configured the proxies, and ran our own benchmark rather than simply repeating the specifications published on the Shifter website.
Our main performance benchmark consisted of 1,000 real requests.
We recorded:
- successful requests;
- failed requests;
- success rate;
- failure rate; and
- average response time.
Shifter completed 932 out of 1,000 requests successfully, with 68 failures. This produced a 93.20% success rate and a fast 1.92-second average response time. The speed was strong, but the failure rate was higher than we would want for demanding high-volume proxy work.
Test #1: Shifter 1,000-Request Success Rate
We sent 1,000 requests through Shifter residential proxies and recorded every successful and failed response.

Results:
Successful: 932/1000
Failed: 68/1000
Success Rate: 93.20%
Failure Reasons 6.80%
Proxy Error
Disconnection
Shifter completed 932 requests successfully, but 68 requests failed during the benchmark. The result is usable for lighter workloads, but the 6.80% failure rate is a concern for high-volume scraping, automation, or tasks where retries create extra cost.
Test #2: Shifter Response Time
Success rate tells us whether requests complete.
It does not tell us how long they take.
So, we also recorded response time during our test.
Our Average Response Time: 1.92 Seconds
Across our benchmark, Shifter averaged 1.92 seconds per request.
The fastest response was 1.50 seconds, while the slowest response was 11.52 seconds.
We would describe the average speed as fast for a residential proxy network, although the slowest result shows that occasional response-time spikes can occur.
But speed needs context.
Residential proxies route traffic through residential devices rather than conventional datacenter infrastructure. Location, routing, the target server, and the quality of individual residential connections can all affect latency.
For our test, the more important finding was the combination of:
93.20% success rate + 1.92-second average response time
Shifter delivered fast average response times, but the 68 failed requests in our test mean it did not provide the same level of reliability as the strongest providers we tested.
Shifter Residential Proxy Features
Now let’s separate our test results from what Shifter currently advertises for its residential proxy service.
According to Shifter, its residential proxy network provides access to 205M+ residential IPs across 195+ countries. It supports country-, region-, city-, and ASN-level targeting, as well as per-request rotation, session-based rotation, and configurable TTL sessions.
Shifter also says its residential proxies support HTTP(S) and SOCKS5, with unlimited concurrent connections.
These are provider-reported specifications. Our 1,000-request test measures Shifter’s performance in our test environment; it does not independently verify the full IP-pool size, every available location, or all targeting options.
Shifter Residential Proxy Overview

Dashboard & Setup Experience
After purchasing residential traffic, Shifter provides a simple account dashboard for ordering plans, tracking bandwidth, viewing request activity, and managing subscriptions.
The dashboard includes:

After purchasing residential traffic, Shifter provides a simple account dashboard for ordering plans, tracking bandwidth, viewing request activity, and managing subscriptions.
The dashboard includes:
Dashboard → My Plans → New Order → Wallet → Invoices
From the New Order page, users can choose Residential Proxies and select a plan based on bandwidth. The available plans show the monthly price, GB included, HTTP(S) and SOCKS5 support, city-level targeting, and API access.
The main dashboard displays useful account data, including:
- bandwidth usage;
- total requests;
- dashboard-reported success rate;
- current plan status;
- traffic remaining; and
- billing information.
To set up a Shifter residential proxy, users add the desired targeting settings directly to the proxy username. The configuration can include:

Country → Region → City → ASN → Session ID → TTL
For example, you can use a session ID to keep the same IP for a session, or use a TTL setting to control when the IP rotates. Then add the Shifter gateway host, port, username, and password to your browser profile, scraper, or automation tool.
The dashboard is clean and easy to navigate. However, Shifter’s dashboard-reported success rate should not be treated as the same as our independent benchmark result. Our 1,000-request test recorded a 93.20% success rate.

Who Should Consider Shifter Residential Proxies?
Shifter may be a good fit for users who want fast average response times, broad geo-targeting, and flexible rotation settings.
It can be suitable for:
- country-, region-, city-, or ASN-targeted website checks;
- localized SEO monitoring and ad verification;
- price monitoring and market research;
- browser automation that needs session-ID or TTL-based IP control;
- users who need residential proxies, ISP proxies, and scraping tools in one account.
However, our benchmark recorded a 93.20% success rate with 68 failed requests. For high-volume scraping, sensitive automation, or projects where failures are costly, consider a provider that achieved a higher hands-on success rate in our testing.

Overall Rating:
4.3 / 5 — Good
Shifter offers fast average response times, broad targeting controls, and competitive high-volume pricing. However, our 1,000-request test recorded 68 failed requests, so it is a better fit for users who value speed and location coverage but can tolerate retries. For high-stakes or high-volume work, choose a provider with stronger hands-on reliability.
